Are we replacing the Holy Spirit with AI?
PAUSE.
This topic is extremely complex, and BOY DO I HAVE THOUGHTS ABOUT IT...
However,
I know these are only my thoughts & genuine questions as a Christian creative myself. More than ever, we need community & thoughtful conversations about this. So these are my genuine thoughts about what I’ve seen in the Christian social media scene.
I’ve noticed two main categories of Christian entrepreneurs & content creators.
The first is: Genuine people who want to share their faith with their work.
The second is: Questionable “Christian” characters who promote an AI product. And the product is usually a software that generates AI content. For instance, The AI content will be a reel showing someone on a podcast they’ve never been on. With these two categories, there’s a HEAVY use of AI-generated content.
One real business owner offered free daily email affirmations to help entrepreneurs cultivate a godly mindset.
I almost signed up… until I realized they openly rely on AI for much of their content.
And I heard a gentle whisper in my mind... “Who’s to say these emails aren’t also written by AI? How do I know they are actually influenced by the Holy Spirit?”
With that question, I sadly lost trust.
I wondered what was human-made, what carried divine conviction, inspiration, and what simply came from a data bank.
I was questioning the value of the product, how cheaply it was made, and if it actually had any human & divine soul behind it. Worst of all, thinking those emails might only be AI generated would make me lose some respect for that business.
You see, once a platform publicly shows its use of AI, it puts itself in a tough spot with its audience.
I mean...just look at the comments and the trending hashtag #AIslop
The person behind the business has to work harder to prove the human touch behind it all. That there’s real & original value to the product.
This isn’t a post condemning all AI use, but it’s a reminder to check ourselves and filter our content & modes of creating through the Holy Spirit. For example, Are we taking all those big questions we ask ChatGPT to God first? God will use the very processes of creating & building that we so often want to avoid to change us, go deeper into His Word, and to connect us with other people. AI can’t replace that journey & personal growth in the Christian walk.
He put those beautiful dreams & callings in us for a reason. But there aren’t short cuts to His calling on our lives.
And what if He wants us to connect with other business owners?
What if we’re missing out on collaborations & blessings because of our impatience, reliance on AI, and desire to take an “easy way”?
Just because creating AI content might seem faster, doesn’t mean it’s good. Just because the messages it puts out might sound nice, doesn’t mean it’s from the Holy Spirit.
Not only does AI raise serious ethical, moral, & copyright questions, it raises spiritual questions.
Where is the line when using AI creatively? In business? In tandem with the Holy Spirit? Is there a line? I just scratched the surface with this post. There are so many more questions.
To sum it up...
Considering we have one of the most powerful tools at out fingertips now...Our responsibility to filter it through the Spirit is so much greater.
“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
-Colossians 3:17
